21 Aug Michele Saint-Edmondson, Valuation Surveyor in our British Virgin Islands office, achieved MRICS status
BCQS is delighted to announce that Michele Saint-Edmondson, Valuation Surveyor in our British Virgin Islands office, has successfully completed her RICS professional assessment and achieved MRICS status, becoming a Chartered Surveyor.
Although Michele began working towards the qualification several years ago, other life commitments meant that the process was paused. In 2024, she renewed her focus and made a determined effort to complete the journey.
The professional assessment involved a presentation based on her case study, followed by a Level 3 assessment of her selected competencies and questions relating to ethics and professionalism within her area of practice. Her preparation also included 48 hours of Continuing Professional Development, extensive reading and maintaining a strong awareness of current industry developments, professional standards and best practices.
Among the challenges Michele faced was identifying the right projects and areas of work to demonstrate her chosen competencies. Balancing the preparation with her professional and family responsibilities also required considerable discipline and personal commitment, with Michele dedicating many Saturdays to working in the office. The process also deepened her appreciation of the professional standards that valuers are required to understand and apply in their work, making the achievement particularly rewarding.
Reflecting on what this milestone means to her, Michele said: “Achieving MRICS status is especially meaningful because it brings global recognition as a Chartered Surveyor and reflects the international relevance of my skills. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this journey.”
One of the most important lessons Michele took from the process was the value of seeking guidance and drawing on the knowledge and experience of others. She extends special thanks to Kerry-Ann Barnes for keeping her grounded and on track; Rosie Nicholls for challenging her with difficult practice questions; Mark Brown for reinforcing the importance of an ethical approach; and Peter Sampson of BCQS Barbados for helping her develop a clear and coherent case study and strengthen her interview technique.
Michele also expresses her sincere appreciation to the wider BCQS BVI team for its continued encouragement and support.
Kerry-Ann Barnes, Associate Director and Head of Valuations BVI, added:
“Words cannot express how proud I am of Michele. Her achievement is thoroughly deserved. I saw first-hand the determination and commitment she brought to the process, balancing her professional responsibilities and family commitments with the demands of preparing for the assessment. We are incredibly proud of her, and this is an important milestone for Michele and our BVI valuation team.”
Rosie Nicholls, Director and Head of Valuation Services, Caribbean, commented:
“Michele’s success is a wonderful achievement and further strengthens our regional valuation team. I know how hard she worked to reach this point, and I am personally very proud to see her receive this well-deserved professional recognition.”
Her achievement reflects her perseverance, professional competence and commitment to maintaining high standards within the valuation profession. Everyone at BCQS congratulates Michele on this well-deserved accomplishment.
