14 Dec BCQS completes two year primary school refurbishment and early years learning centre project in Dominica
BCQS International is pleased to announce the completion of the two-year primary school refurbishment and early years learning centre project in Dominica. Wotten Waven Primary School, the sixth and final primary school refurbishment, has been completed, marking the end of this successful project. The handover happened in early November, and Prime Minister Rooverlt Skerrit officially opened the school.
The school was the last and most extensive of the projects, involving major demolition, refurbishment and upgrading of an existing classroom building, new classrooms and staff facilities, welfare and kitchen facilities, and external works. The construction also added accessible ramps, paths and washroom facilities. The Ministry of education acknowledged it as being completed in record time, marking the project’s successful end as a whole.
BCQS is incredibly proud to have provided project and cost management services on such an important and complex project, which comprised three phases of work in six different communities in Dominica, all while ensuring safe working conditions throughout national and international restrictions.
“We want to extend our appreciation to The Maria Holder Memorial Trust and the Government of Dominica for their unwavering support throughout this project. Both of them recognised the importance of safely working through the restrictions to finish in time for the new school year, without which it would not have been possible,” said Jamie Linehan, Project Manager for BCQS International. “Education and community projects are always special, but the scope and reach of this project have been felt throughout Dominica. It has provided a significant upgrade to the country’s educational facilities for now and the future, a win-win project in the truest sense of the words!”
With the region experiencing successive disasters in recent years, BCQS worked in conjunction with various partners to help deliver robust and more resilient school structures that will withstand several weather events.
