BCQS International Managing Director Addresses Urban Land Institute in South Florida

BCQS International Managing Director, Liam Day, recently addressed the Urban Land Institute, South Florida and Caribbean Chapter, at their 2014 conference 'Developing in the Caribbean Basin', held at the Conrad Hotel in Miami, Florida on the 10th and 12th of September.

Over one hundred and fifty development professionals, government officials and other land use experts attended the three-day event from the anticipated 45 countries to network and share insights on the rapidly changing development climate in the Caribbean Basin.

Topics covered during the focused panel sessions included 'Coastal Development', 'Public Sector Visions and Incentives'. 'Infrastructure Developments', 'Firing up Real Estate Sales', Sustainability', 'Due Diligence' and 'Finance and Funding Deals'.

Liam was invited to kick off the conference by giving an overview of the Caribbean Basin Development and Investment Market, which set the stage for the subsequent panel discussions. In a whirlwind tour of the regions development and investment environment, Liam spoke on general demographics of the region and provided commentary on the market pre-recession, during the recession and the current state, by looking at development costs and the investment climate for the four key sectors, Hotel and Resorts, Residential, Commercial and the Public Sector. The outlook was summed up with an overview of the current 'Hot' and 'cold' spots within the region and the drivers behind those jurisdictions highlighted.

Speaking about the conference Liam commented, 'It was my first time at a ULI Event and although I wasn't able to attend the entire conference due to previous commitments, the sessions I did attend were very informative and current. The event also afforded me the opportunity to network with development professionals operating within the region that we normally wouldn't meet at other Caribbean and Latin American industry events we attend."
