BCQS International directors attend the 16th annual Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC)

BCQS International directors Sanjay Amin, Ben Butler and Liam Day recently attended the 16th annual Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference, (CHTIC), in San Juan Puerto Rico.

The conference, held from the 24th to 26th May, addressed many of the challenges currently facing the Caribbean tourism sector and offered strategies on how to weather the storm whilst repositioning to take full advantage of the next market upturn.

BCQS Managing Director, Liam Day, was invited to make a presentation at the conference as part of a session discussing the global decline in real estate and the short and long term future for the region with specific reference to 'branded' real estate and it's interface with the hospitality industry.

Liam spoke on the subject of 'branded' mixed use developments, analysing what led to the trend of developing branded real estate, what ultimately went wrong, what are the lessons to be learnt from the fall-out and what is the outlook for the future.

Joining Liam on stage for this session were Erick Schwarz, Senior Associate/VP with Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, Anthony Bowen, CEO of Sotherby's International in St. Lucia and Jay DiGulio, President of Boutique Club International.

When asked about the overall event Liam commented "After two years of downward trending, 2011 saw the market leveling out with intelligence sources predicting positive growth for 2012. As such, attendance at this year's CHTIC was probably more important than ever before as a means of getting in at the ground floor when the deals are done and the key decisions made for the projects that will evolve during the next market upturn."

Sanjay added " we have been attending this event since it's inception in the late nineties and for us it will always be a 'must go' event to maintain the relationships that we have developed over the years with the region's movers and shakers in the hospitality sector."
