RICS Americas Inaugurates Sanjay Amin FRICS as Caribbean Board Chairman
NEW YORK, NY, August 16, 2011 – RICS, the world's leading qualification for professional standards in land, property and construction, announced today the inauguration of Sanjay Amin, as the new Caribbean Board Chairman.
Sanjay, who was elected to this position by his fellow RICS Caribbean
Board members following the death of previous Board Chair, David Neale FRICS, of Trinidad & Tobago, began his duties as Chairman on August 1. Already a representative on the RICS Caribbean Board, Sanjay will now set about leading the Board's development of the region's vision and strategy.
In his new role as Caribbean Chair, Sanjay said he has many priorities for the region. "My main local priorities include more CPD lectures, making Governments and possibly media aware of the role RICS members can play in the community and perhaps organize a few social functions." But at the top of his list are plans to "organize a real estate conference, promote the property profession and RICS, improve communication with the members by way of a newsletter, and engage with local universities and employers to promote RICS," he said.
Sanjay Amin was born and bred in Nairobi, Kenya. He attended Durham School in England at the age of 15 to complete his higher education. He graduated in Quantity Surveying in 1984 and worked for Gardiner & Theobald in London for 12 years where he was an Associate Partner. In 1997, he left to open BCQS's office in the British Virgin Islands. In 2006, Sanjay moved with his family to expand the company's operations in Barbados.
Sanjay's experience includes managing a variety of commercial, residential, resort, airport, hospital and industrial projects in the United Kingdom, Barbados, BVI and the Eastern Caribbean islands. He has also worked in Sweden and Dubai. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a director of BCQS International. He was a Club Service Director of the Rotary Club of Tortola (2004 – 2005) and is a current member of the Rotary Club of Barbados.
Sanjay was appointed member of the RICS Caribbean Board for the 2007-2011 term. He is a current member of the RICS Americas Construction Council and performs the duties of an APC Assessor for membership into RICS. In 2009, he participated in the voluntary mission to Haiti on behalf of RICS.
